Kalutara South Police state that the body of a school teacher, who reportedly left home due to a family dispute, was found washed ashore on Kalutara South's Kalido beach. The unfortunate victim has been identified as 42-year-old Nadeeshani Tharangika Amaranayake, a mother of one, residing in the Veediyagoda, Kanaththagoda area of Bandaragama.
She had been working as a primary section teacher at Moragahahena Maha Vidyalaya, while her husband serves as the chief dance teacher at Homagama Mahinda Rajapaksa Vidyalaya.
According to police investigations, she attended a friend's wedding party on April 29th, but her husband was unable to join due to his busy schedule, which led to some displeasure between the couple.
Subsequently, on April 30th, her husband attended a school event in Colombo, and his wife had repeatedly told him not to go.
After making several phone calls to her husband that day, the teacher left home. Although her only son and mother followed her, asking her not to go, she got into a three-wheeler and departed, police investigations revealed.
Due to continuous phone calls from his wife, the husband returned home. Upon realizing she had left, he filed a complaint with the Moragahahena Police around 12:40 AM that day.
Subsequently, based on an anonymous phone call received on the afternoon of May 1st, Kalutara South Police and Crime Scene Investigation officers jointly discovered her body on Kalido beach.
On May 2nd, the deceased teacher's husband and mother identified the body at Kalutara Nagoda Hospital. The post-mortem examination was conducted by Judicial Medical Officer S. S. Attanayake of Nagoda Hospital, under the orders of Kalutara Municipal Inquirer into Sudden Deaths, Ms. Nirosha Dilrukshi.
The Inquirer into Sudden Deaths has ruled this a death under investigation, and blood samples from the body are to be sent to the Government Analyst to ascertain the exact cause of death.
Under the instructions of Kalutara South Headquarters Police Inspector Y. Nalaka Gunasekara, Police Sergeant Silva (55318) and Police Constable Ekanayake (31060) are conducting further investigations into the incident.
The final rites of the teacher were performed on May 3rd at the Veediyagoda, Kanaththagoda public cemetery.
