The dead body of the young man who jumped into the sea after seeing the police while selling drugs is floating.

A person who was selling drugs to fishermen inside the Beruwala Fisheries Harbor drowned in the sea after jumping into the water while attempting to flee upon seeing a police raid. This raid was carried out by a team of officers including Police Sergeant Udayakumara, based on information received by the Beruwala Police, on the 17th of last month at approximately 3:00 PM.

There, the suspect, who was hiding among the fishing boats, immediately ran along the line of boats and jumped into the sea to escape upon seeing the police officers. Although the police attempted to search for him with the aid of another boat, they were unable to find him at that time.




During the escape, a small bag containing drugs, which was thrown into the sea by the suspect, was taken into police custody. Officers were able to find 10 packets of heroin, each weighing 20 milligrams, as well as two wax envelopes containing 'Ice' (crystal methamphetamine) weighing 1600 milligrams and 1770 milligrams respectively, inside that bag.

The following day, on the 18th, at approximately 7:30 AM, an investigation conducted based on information received about a floating body in the sea identified it as the body of the person who had jumped into the sea and fled the previous day. The deceased was a resident of Round Road, Pothupitiya, Wadduwa area.




The police also found Rs. 50,800 in cash, suspected to be proceeds from drug sales, in the pocket of his shorts. Additionally, a national identity card issued in the name of a resident of Gayaddara Udyanaya, Andadola, Waturegama, was taken into police custody along with it. Further investigations into this matter are being conducted by a team of officers including Beruwala Police Station OIC Chief Police Inspector M.R. Navaratne.
