The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) conducted a lengthy interrogation yesterday (21) of Attorney Chaminda Kularatne, who served as the former Deputy Secretary-General and Chief of Staff of Parliament. Mr. Kularatne, who appeared before the commission yesterday morning following a summons, was questioned for nearly five hours, and his statements were recorded.

The Bribery Commission states that his statement was recorded in conjunction with an ongoing investigation related to his appointment. Previously, steps were taken to suspend Chaminda Kularatne based on a report submitted by a special committee appointed by the current Speaker, Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne.

A case filed by Mr. Kularatne in the Court of Appeal challenging the decision to suspend him is currently being heard. He has informed the court that the initial investigation process, which targeted him, seriously violated constitutional laws and administrative rules.

Concurrently with this series of events, Attorney Chaminda Kularatne has also lodged a complaint with the Bribery Commission against the Speaker. It is reported that the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption has commenced its investigations into that complaint as well.
