Mahinda Wijesekara passes away

Mr. Mahinda Wijesekera, a former cabinet minister and a senior politician who represented the Matara District, passed away today. He was also the beloved father of former Minister of Power and Energy, Mr. Kanchana Wijesekera.During his long political career, he represented the United National Party, as well as the United People's Freedom Alliance and the Sri Lanka Freedom Party. He was a leader who maintained a very close relationship with the common people of the Southern Province. During his political life, he held several cabinet ministerial positions, notably as the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications, and prior to that, as the Minister of Fisheries. Mr. Mahinda Wijesekera, who faced a suicide bomb attack in Akurassa in 2009, sustained serious injuries but managed to survive. However, he continuously faced various health issues thereafter. Following in his political footsteps, his son, Mr. Kanchana Wijesekera, later entered politics as a Member of Parliament for the Matara District and also as a Cabinet Minister.
