With the aim of providing relief to the public for the upcoming Sinhala and Hindu New Year festival season, it has been decided to provide fuel to petrol-powered vehicles without the 'QR' code system from midnight today (11) until April 18. Mr. Janaka Rajakaruna, the Chairman of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation, officially announced this while participating in a special press conference held today.
Although the QR code is not mandatory for petrol vehicles in this manner, the Chairman strongly emphasized that the odd and even number system for fuel distribution, based on the last digit of the vehicle's license plate, will continue to operate without any changes. Furthermore, this temporary exemption is limited only to petrol vehicles, and the Corporation further states that the QR system must be used as before when providing fuel for diesel vehicles.
Meanwhile, a fuel oil tanker with a capacity of 30,000 metric tons, imported to continuously maintain electricity generation in the country, is scheduled to arrive in the country tomorrow (12). Mr. Mayura Nettikumara, the Managing Director of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation, stated that steps will be taken to provide the entire stock of fuel oil for electricity generation, and concurrently, discussions regarding the purchase of Russian oil are also ongoing, based on several agreements.
In addition, the Chairman of the Petroleum Corporation also clarified the current trend of rising fuel prices in the global market and the expected fuel price revision process to be carried out in the country in the future, during the relevant press conference.
