A woman who was subtly involved in heroin drug trafficking while carrying her two-month-old infant, and another person who assisted her, were arrested yesterday (05) by officers of the Bandaragama Police. During this raid, over four grams of heroin, valued at more than one hundred thousand rupees, were taken into police custody.
This woman's husband is currently imprisoned on drug charges, and police investigations have revealed that she operated this trafficking ring based on his instructions. The woman, a resident of Batapotha, Medagama, Bandaragama, had been hiding drugs on her body, carrying her small child, and then going to various locations in Batapotha and surrounding areas to hide the drugs. Additionally, she had hidden heroin in a plastic bottle near a water pipe at her home. These arrests were made based on specific intelligence received by Sub-Inspector Roshan Perera, the OIC of the Anti-Corruption Unit of the Bandaragama Police, indicating that a person residing very close to her house was also involved in this trafficking.
Those arrested by the police are a 38-year-old female suspect and a 44-year-old male suspect. Both of them are scheduled to be produced before the Panadura Magistrate's Court. Under the instructions of Senior Superintendent of Police Nishan de Silva, in charge of the Panadura Division, further investigations into this incident are being conducted by a police team led by Chief Inspector Channa Amarasekara, OIC of Bandaragama Police, and including Sub-Inspector Roshan Perera, OIC of the Anti-Corruption Unit.
