Colombo police horses transferred to Kandy due to high heat

The Sri Lanka Police has decided to transfer horses from the Colombo Police Mounted Division, who are suffering from the prevailing severe hot weather conditions, to the Kandy Police Mounted Division. According to Assistant Superintendent of Police (Veterinary) Manjula Wijekoon, two horses have already been dispatched from Colombo to Kandy as per this decision.




The police state that several special measures have also been implemented to protect the remaining horses in Colombo who were not transferred to Kandy from the extreme heat. Accordingly, steps have already been taken to install electric fans in their stables, and facilities have been provided to bathe them two or three times daily. Additionally, it is reported that various other methods are being adopted to control the horses' body temperature and provide them with the necessary coolness.

In addition to horses, special attention has also been paid to police official dogs during this period. Dr. Amal Dissanayake, the veterinary officer in charge of the Police Canine Section, stated that the Police Department has already taken all necessary protective measures to save the official dogs from the prevailing hot weather conditions.
