Shakib Al Hasan has severely criticized Bangladesh's decision not to participate in the T20 World Cup, stating that the move caused significant damage to the future of cricket in the country. Speaking to the media at a special event in Belgium, he declared that the decision taken by the interim government at the time was a serious mistake that shattered the expectations of cricket fans.

He further emphasized that losing a World Cup hosted by India and Sri Lanka was a huge setback for Bangladesh as a nation.

Shakib expressed his satisfaction with the current composition of the Bangladesh team, pointing out that there is a good blend of new and experienced players within the squad. Based on the recent victory against New Zealand, he stated that players are now performing collectively rather than being limited to individual brilliance, which should be appreciated. He believes that a very positive environment is being created for the future of Bangladesh cricket and expresses confidence that the team will be more successful in the coming period.

Shakib also clarified his stance on the changes occurring within the administrative structure of the Bangladesh Cricket Board, giving a positive response to Tamim Iqbal's involvement. He expects Tamim to work towards holding a transparent election through the currently established interim committee, and he also mentioned that if a talented leader like Tamim joins the governing system on a long-term basis, it would be a great support for the development of the sport.

Meanwhile, Mosaddek Hossain Saikat, who is currently out of the national squad, has taken on the captaincy of the Abahani team in this year's Dhaka Premier League. He admitted that he was unable to capitalize on the opportunities he received in the national team as expected, and expressed his hope to re-establish his place based on his future performances in the domestic arena. Stating that his team is currently training with great dedication, he expressed confidence that they will be able to achieve good results in the future.

Several new amendments have also been introduced in the world of football, with FIFA deciding to relax card bans imposed on players for the 2026 World Cup. Accordingly, single yellow card records accumulated by players at the end of the group stage and the quarter-final stage will be erased. The FIFA Council points out that this will give key players an opportunity to avoid missing semi-final and final matches, and spectators will be able to witness a more competitive and exciting style of play.
