A dead body was found in a well near the house of Midigama Lasa, who was murdered.

Police have found the body of a young man who died mysteriously in a well located near the house of Mr. Lasantha Wickremesekara, the former chairman of the Weligama Pradeshiya Sabha, who was recently shot dead.

Based on special information received by the police, the body was found in this well, which is about 35 feet deep, and arrangements were made to retrieve it yesterday (20) under the observation of the Matara Acting Magistrate. The police have now identified the deceased as a 28-year-old young man named 'Sankha', a resident of the Grandpass area in Colombo.

In connection with this mysterious death, a person said to be a close friend of the deceased young man has been arrested on suspicion by the Midigama Police. According to reports, the deceased was a severe drug user, and investigations are underway on several fronts to confirm whether he was also a suspect wanted by the police in connection with a crime.

The Matara Acting Magistrate further ordered the police to take the body to the Matara General Hospital for post-mortem examination. The Midigama Police have launched a comprehensive investigation to definitively ascertain whether this death was a homicide committed by a group of people or an accident of another kind.
