Due to the escalating war situation in the Middle East region, the United States has issued a strong warning to its citizens to immediately evacuate from 14 countries in that region. This decision has been made due to military operations carried out by the US and Israel against Iran, and retaliatory attacks launched by Iran.
The US State Department has informed its citizens to immediately leave those countries, as travel has been severely disrupted by the suspension of commercial flights and the closure of airspace. The countries subject to this strong announcement include
Bahrain, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Israel (including the West Bank and Gaza Strip), Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, the United Arab Emirates, and Yemen.
Assistant Secretary of State for Consular Affairs Mora Namdar publicized this urgent announcement on the 'X' social media network in the first week of March 2026, and leading international media networks such as BBC, Reuters, Al Jazeera, and CBS also gave it wide publicity.
The seriousness of this situation was further intensified when a missile attack was launched on the US Embassy building in Baghdad, Iraq, on Saturday. Following this attack, the embassy issued a statement advising Americans to immediately leave Iraq, considering significant threats that could arise from Iran-aligned armed groups. Additionally, Reuters reported that the US government has ordered non-essential US government employees and their family members remaining in Oman to also leave the country immediately.
Due to restrictions on commercial flights, the US State Department has taken steps to facilitate the evacuation of its citizens from countries such as the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Jordan via special chartered flights. It is reported that emergency funds up to $40 million have been approved for these urgent evacuation operations. Since late February, tens of thousands of Americans have safely left the region, but due to airport closures and reduced embassy staff, many people in certain areas are still facing various difficulties. Previously, on February 28, the US had issued a special advisory notice for its citizens traveling worldwide, with a particular focus on the Middle East region.
American citizens currently remaining in these high-risk areas have been advised to join the 'Smart Traveler Enrollment Program' (STEP) via the step.state.gov website to obtain the latest security information. Furthermore, they have been instructed to stay vigilant regarding locally updated information through the websites of the US Embassy in their respective countries.
