Former Member of Parliament Dr. Channa Jayasumana made the following statement, criticizing the actions of the current government.
He states that the government's arrogance was clearly demonstrated even when preparing the auspicious times (nakath seettuwa) for the upcoming Sinhala New Year. He mentioned that initially, due to the government not providing auspicious times, he published a calendar prepared with the consensus of the country's expert astrologers. Subsequently, Mr. Jayasumana pointed out that with the intervention of the subject minister, the government's auspicious times were announced, changing the timings prepared by the experts by one or two minutes, using another group of people. Accordingly, he points out that by changing the auspicious times provided by astrologers at 10:41 AM and 12:05 PM to 10:51 AM and 12:06 PM respectively and publishing them, the government has merely shown its unwillingness to accept the opinion of experts.
Mr. Jayasumana emphasized that the prevailing fuel crisis and the QR code system introduced by the government to address it are a complete failure. He states that through this system, which was suddenly introduced at 6:00 AM on a Sunday without any prior testing, newly registered vehicles have not yet been able to obtain a code. He also stated that former President Hon. Gotabaya Rajapaksa was able to successfully manage the country's energy crisis for two years during the COVID pandemic, which began in December 2019.
