On the 16th, 134 foreigners who were staying in five luxury hotels in the Anuradhapura and Mihintale areas without valid visas were arrested by officers of the Department of Immigration and Emigration. The arrested group includes 124 Chinese nationals, 6 Myanmar nationals, and 4 Taiwanese nationals, and this group also includes women.

This raid was carried out based on special information received by the State Intelligence Service, and it has been revealed that the individuals concerned had been illegally staying for several months in four hotels within the Anuradhapura city limits and one hotel in Mihintale town. Intelligence agencies have found that the respective hotel owners had completely prohibited external individuals from entering the premises, and only these foreigners were engaged in some activity using computers within those premises.

Based on their suspicious behavior, intelligence agencies strongly suspect that this organized group may have been operating an illegal financial racket. During the raid, three motor vehicles used by them were also taken into custody by the officers, and it has been revealed that one of these vehicles was registered to an address in the Chilaw area.

Authorities have taken steps to transport all the arrested foreigners to Colombo using two buses. The Department of Immigration and Emigration is currently undertaking further legal actions and investigations related to the incident.
