Due to the current war situation in the Middle East region between the United States, Israel, and Iran, the cricket series scheduled to be held between Sri Lanka and Afghanistan in the United Arab Emirates has been postponed. This series was previously planned to be held from March 13 to 25, consisting of three One-Day Internationals and three T20 matches.

Mr. Naseeb Khan, the Chief Executive Officer of the Afghanistan Cricket Board, officially confirmed this to Cricbuzz on Tuesday. He stated that the white-ball series had to be postponed due to practical issues in arranging flights and other transportation facilities amidst the prevailing crisis in the region.

The CEO stated that continuous discussions were held with Sri Lanka Cricket as an alternative measure to host this series in Sri Lanka. However, the main obstacle was the unavailability of flight facilities from the United Arab Emirates to Sri Lanka during the relevant period.

Additionally, securing stadiums, arranging hotel facilities, managing broadcast operations, and ensuring player safety within such a short period proved to be a significant challenge, leading them to make the final decision to postpone the series entirely.

Accordingly, this postponed series is currently intended to be held in the final quarter of this year (2026). This was supposed to be the first T20 series for the Afghanistan team under the new captain, Ibrahim Zadran, after he took over the captaincy of the Afghanistan T20 team from Rashid Khan.
