The Cabinet has approved providing relief to farmers for re-cultivating major export crops such as tea, rubber, and coconut, which were damaged due to the adverse weather conditions that prevailed across the country in late November 2025. A proposal submitted by the President as the Minister of Finance, Planning, and Economic Development has thus been approved.

Prior to this new approval, Cabinet approval had already been granted to provide relief for re-cultivating field crops including paddy, vegetables, and fruit crops damaged by the disaster, as well as for minor export crops such as pepper, coffee, and cardamom. It is reported that steps have already been taken to provide these relief benefits to the beneficiary farmers. The Ministry of Plantation and Community Infrastructure had previously recommended to the General Treasury the need to provide similar relief for tea, coconut, and rubber cultivations.

According to the new approval, financial relief will be provided to cultivators affected by the disaster as follows:

* **For Tea Cultivation:** Subject to a maximum of Rs. 500,000/- per hectare. * **For Rubber Cultivation:** Subject to a maximum of Rs. 400,000/- per hectare. * **For Coconut Cultivation:** Subject to a maximum of Rs. 750,000/- per hectare.
