Essential Services Commissioner General Prabath Chandrakirthi revealed several important facts while participating in a special press conference held with the aim of successfully facing the existing crisis and informing the public about the government's future actions. He emphasized that the Cabinet, which met today, has decided to appoint four main committees to manage the current challenges.

These decisions were made today (16) following a discussion chaired by the President to explore steps to be taken to ensure energy security within the country, as well as the continuous operation of economic processes and essential services.

According to this new Cabinet decision, a special committee has been established under the chairmanship of the Honorable Prime Minister to ensure the uninterrupted continuation of public services. In addition, an energy committee has been appointed under the leadership of Minister Vijitha Herath to manage issues and needs in the energy sector, and a committee chaired by Bimal Ratnayake has been appointed for the systematic distribution of essential goods and the regulation of these activities. Furthermore, the responsibility of providing essential welfare facilities to people from various strata of society has been assigned to the committee headed by Minister Upali Pannilage.

To ensure the more efficient performance of the functions of each committee thus established, the government has taken steps to appoint relevant ministry secretaries as well as other essential state officials. The Commissioner General of Essential Services further stated that the government's main expectation is to conduct a comprehensive study of the country's current situation through this committee mechanism and systematically guide the relevant future activities.

The President has made these decisions considering the current disruptions to energy supply due to the war situation in the Middle East. It was reported that relevant ministers and ministry secretaries participated in this discussion.
