A twenty-three-year-old female student studying at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo, reportedly fell about fifty feet down a precipice today, the 19th, while attempting to take a selfie after visiting the main World's End at Horton Plains. The accident occurred when she arrived at the location around nine in the morning with a group of friends from her university, and she survived by clinging to a tree branch in the precipice.

In this dangerous situation, a driver attached to the Horton Plains National Park immediately sprang into action, descending into the precipice despite the risk to his own life. He then rescued the student who was clinging to a branch and helped her sit on a safe rock on the slope. Following this, wildlife officers requested assistance from Pattipola Police, the Sri Lanka Army, and the Police Special Task Force to fully rescue her.

Accordingly, a massive joint operation was launched by Army personnel including commandos from the Nuwara Eliya Sri Lanka Third Sinha Regiment, officers from the Nuwara Eliya Police Special Task Force, police officers including the Pattipola OIC, and wildlife officers. Mr. Manjula Monarathenna, Manager of Horton Plains National Park, stated that after several hours of intense effort, the teams successfully rescued the student trapped in the precipice unharmed. The rescued student has been admitted to the Nuwara Eliya District General Hospital for further treatment.
