Kandy Headquarters Police reports that a stock of gems worth approximately sixty lakhs (six million) rupees has been robbed from a well-known gem testing laboratory operating in a three-story commercial and office complex located on Kotugodella Street in Kandy city. This crime was committed by spraying some poisonous chemical substance on the face of the gemologist working at the said center.

According to preliminary police investigations, the robber entered the laboratory under the guise of getting a few of his own gemstones examined. He was wearing a motorcycle helmet and a face mask at the time, and it has also been revealed that only the gemologist was present in the laboratory at the time of the incident. There, the cunning suspect sprayed the chemical substance on the gemologist's face and fled with the stock of gems.

To apprehend the escaped robber, a comprehensive investigation has already been launched under the direction of Chief Police Inspector Rasika Sampath Pathirana of Kandy Police. Accordingly, a special police team visited the gem testing center where the crime occurred and conducted investigations, and the police further state that CCTV camera footage installed in the building complex is also being thoroughly examined.
