A 22-year-old married couple has been arrested by a team of officers from the Chilaw Divisional Criminal Investigation Unit in connection with an incident where a young man and his girlfriend were attacked with swords, injured, and a motorcycle was robbed in the Dankotuwa area. The couple was arrested on the evening of the 26th at the Kirimatiyana Junction in Lunuwila, Wennappuwa, and at the time, police also found 22 grams and 260 milligrams of heroin in the possession of the suspects who were traveling on a motorcycle.




Police investigations have revealed that this suspect married couple maintains close ties with 'Dankotuwe Awa,' a powerful drug trafficker who has currently fled and is hiding in Dubai. It is suspected that the motorcycle robbery was also carried out under the direction of this trafficker, and the police have launched a comprehensive investigation to arrest five more suspects connected to this crime.

The victims of this robbery are a 19-year-old young man and his girlfriend. According to an advertisement posted by the young man to sell his motorcycle, a person called him by phone, pretending to buy it, and instructed him to come to Katavilla Lake in Dankotuwa. Accordingly, the young man, along with his girlfriend, went to the said location on two motorcycles on the night of the 22nd. There, two individuals hiding near the lake attacked them with swords, injured them, and robbed the young man's motorcycle, valued at approximately four hundred and twenty-eight thousand rupees, before fleeing.




The young man and woman injured in the sword attack are currently admitted to the Negombo District General Hospital and are receiving treatment. The Chilaw Divisional Criminal Investigation Unit has taken steps to hand over the arrested suspect married couple to the Wennappuwa and Dankotuwa Police Stations for further investigations. The Criminal Investigation Unit of Dankotuwa Police is conducting further investigations into this incident under the instructions and guidance of Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police for North Western Province, Kithsiri Rohana, Senior Superintendent of Police for Chilaw Division, Roshan Perera, and Assistant Superintendent of Police for Wennappuwa, Asela Pulwansa.
