Due to the escalating war situation in the Middle East region, a severe ship congestion has been created around the Hambantota Port these days. A major reason for this is that many ships, which were scheduled to sail to Dubai Port, changed their destination and unloaded goods and used luxury motor vehicles at Hambantota Port after Iran closed the Strait of Hormuz.

Due to this, a large congestion has occurred in the port premises over the past two weeks, and foreign media reports that many of the world's most expensive luxury vehicles such as Rolls Royce, Lamborghini, and Ferrari are among the goods unloaded.

As a direct result of this congestion, a ship belonging to Japan's Kobe Motors company, which arrived in Sri Lanka carrying about five hundred vehicles, had to anchor at sea for about ten days unable to enter the port. About fifty luxury motor vehicles belonging to this company, which annually exports about eighteen thousand used vehicles and considers Sri Lanka as its main buyer, and were destined for Dubai, have now been unloaded in Sri Lanka and China.
