Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka emphasizes that no serious threat to national security has been created within current Sri Lanka, and that generating unnecessary fear in society regarding national security by highlighting minor incidents is merely done with the expectation of political gain.

He points out that the recent murders reported are by no means crimes committed for political purposes, but are merely the activities of underworld gangs. He further stated that although the underworld was nurtured under political patronage during previous regimes, since the current government has no such underworld connections, it has the ability to swiftly suppress these criminals and restore the country to normalcy.

He states that although various groups tried to build their image by inciting racism and creating riots in the past, society should not be unnecessarily alarmed by it. The Sri Lanka Tri-Forces are currently performing their duties properly, and it is Mr. Fonseka's belief that minor crimes committed by one or two individuals cannot pose any threat to the overall security of the country. He also points out that instantaneous crimes, such as shootings carried out by individuals on motorcycles, cannot be 100% prevented even if the entire army is called into Colombo city.

He stated that since the ministers and MPs representing the current government have a broad understanding of such past experiences, they will be able to manage the current situation properly. However, the Field Marshal stated to the media that one cannot be satisfied with the crimes currently occurring in the country in any way, and that the government must take swift and strict measures against them.
