Sigiriya Police state that two youths traveling on a motorcycle died and the driver of a van was injured when a motorcycle and a van collided on the Dambulla-Habarana main road in the Digampathaha area on the night of the 9th.
Police state that the deceased were two employees working at a tourist hotel in the Digampathaha area and were residents of Dambulla and Thanamalwila areas. The van was traveling from Dambulla towards Habarana. Police suspect that the accident may have occurred when the motorcycle, which was traveling from Habarana towards Dambulla, attempted to overtake another vehicle.
However, it has not been possible to definitively ascertain how the accident occurred, and preliminary investigations have revealed that the two young men who died in the accident were thrown a considerable distance off the road. Police state that the deceased are Gimhana Jayathilaka and Thavindu Chethiya Rathnayake, and the accident occurred while they were traveling to Dambulla Hospital to visit a patient while working at the tourist hotel. Sigiriya Police are conducting investigations into the incident.
