Mr. Prabath Chandrakirthi has been appointed as the Chief of Staff to the President. The relevant letter of appointment was handed over to him by President's Secretary Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanaayake this morning (16) at the Presidential Secretariat.
Mr. Prabath Chandrakirthi, an officer of the Special Grade of the Sri Lanka Administrative Service, has served in the public service for 26 years to date. Mr. Chandrakirthi, who joined the Sri Lanka Administrative Service on February 15, 2000, was promoted to Grade I of the Sri Lanka Administrative Service in 2010 and received promotions to the Special Grade in 2019. He received his first appointment as Assistant Secretary to the Ministry of Education and Tourism of the Uva Provincial Council in 2001 and assumed duties as Assistant Divisional Secretary of Biyagama in 2003.Subsequently, he was appointed as an Assistant Secretary at the Office of the Leader of the House of the Sri Lankan Parliament in 2006, and was promoted to Senior Assistant Secretary there in 2010, serving in that position until 2015. Thereafter, from April 2015 to October 2020, he served as the Director General of the Coast Conservation Department. From October 2020 to December 2023, he also served as the Commissioner General of Labour. Mr. Chandrakirthi, who was appointed as the Secretary to the Ministry of Environment, Wildlife, Forest Resources, Water Supply, Plantations, and Community Infrastructure in January 2024, also served as the Secretary to the Ministry of Plantations and Community Infrastructure from November 2024 to date, and currently serves as the Commissioner General of Essential Services.
