A disabled former army soldier, who allegedly assaulted a police sergeant, sprayed chili powder on him, and bit his hand during a kasippu (illicit liquor) raid at a house in the Mahawa area, has been arrested by the police. The officer who faced this incident is attached to the Anti-Corruption Unit of the Mahawa Headquarters Police.

During the said raid, a can containing 25 bottles of kasippu was taken into police custody from the suspect's possession. After biting the sergeant's hand several times, running into the kitchen, attacking him with chili powder, and attempting to flee, the police pursued and arrested the suspect. The police further state that the injured police sergeant has been hospitalized.

A senior police officer in the area told 'Lankadeepa' yesterday (22) that this disabled soldier was arrested under charges of illicit liquor trafficking, obstructing a police officer's duty, criminal force, and causing injuries. It is also reported that he is someone who stays at home based on medical advice. The Anti-Corruption Unit of the Mahawa Headquarters Police is conducting further investigations into this incident.
