A serious incident has been reported in Kandy where a nine-year-old student was abused by an outsider within a well-known girls' school. The Kandy Police Children and Women's Bureau has already launched a comprehensive investigation into the incident faced by this girl, who was studying in the fourth grade at the said college.
This situation came to light after the girl informed her parents about the misconduct she faced within the school premises. Following this, the parents immediately filed a complaint with the police, and the student has currently been admitted to Peradeniya Teaching Hospital for further medical examinations and treatment.
The police state that the girl is also scheduled to be referred to a judicial medical officer to obtain an official medical report regarding this incident. While examining the security camera systems installed on the school premises, footage of an outsider entering the school grounds has been recorded, but it has not yet been definitively confirmed from which point he entered the school.
Parents, strongly protesting against this serious security lapse to the school administration, point out that recent changes in the school's security division have directly contributed to this. They allege that such an insecure environment has been created within the school due to the removal of experienced security officers who had served for many years and the recruitment of a group of newcomers in their place.
