The Postal Department has decided to revise the fees related to the domestic postal service, and these new revised fees will come into effect from today (09). According to this revision, the fee for a normal letter, which was previously Rs. 50, has been increased to Rs. 70. However, there has been no change in the registered mail fee, so it will remain at the existing price of Rs. 60.
The Postal Department states that in conjunction with the fee revision, changes have also been made to the weight categories for ordinary and business letter services. Accordingly, the basic weight category has been increased from 20 grams to 30 grams, and the maximum weight for a leaflet or a set of leaflets has been raised from 100 grams to 120 grams. The fee for letters posted by charities, social service organizations, and voluntary organizations, which was Rs. 30, has been increased to Rs. 50, and the fee for an ordinary postcard has been revised from Rs. 20 to Rs. 40.
The fee for the special registered service provided for sending postal items to ministries and departments for public sector requirements has been increased from Rs. 110 to Rs. 130. In addition, promotional mail, telemail, stamp envelopes, mailbag services, as well as the minimum surcharge for unpaid or underpaid items, have also been revised. However, the Postal Department emphasizes that no revisions will be made to the ordinary parcel fee and the fees charged for the Sri Lanka Post Courier service.
