Piyumi's son and the shovel team clashed with the media as they left after obtaining bail (video)

Colombo Additional Magistrate Nuwan Kaushalya yesterday (20) ordered the release on bail of seven suspects, including the son of model Piyumi Hansamali, who were arrested in connection with the assault on a three-wheeler driver in the Rajagiriya, Kalapaluwawa area.

The Magistrate ordered two personal sureties of two hundred thousand rupees each for one suspect, and also ordered that parents of minor suspects should appear as sureties on their behalf.

It was reported that the suspects, who were produced in court by prison officials, were subjected to an identification parade. There, the witness confirmed that all suspects were present at the scene of the incident.

According to police investigations, about three months ago, a friend of Piyumi Hansamali's son was traveling on a motorcycle when it collided with a three-wheeler in the Rajagiriya area, causing an accident. The Welikada Police conducted this investigation into the assault on the three-wheeler driver by the group, including the model's son, who arrived after this incident.

After considering all facts, the Magistrate granted bail to the suspects and ordered the police to submit a report on the progress of further investigations to the court on June 8th.

Meanwhile, after being granted bail, Piyumi Hansamali left the court premises immediately in her Range Rover without making any statement to the media. The other suspects who received bail left the scene separately. One of them had a heated exchange with journalists outside the court premises, asking them not to take photos or videos. The police also had to intervene to de-escalate the situation.
