Nawalapitiya OIC's three-year-old daughter falls victim to the car monster

A three-year-old daughter of Nawalapitiya Police OIC Nishshanka Nandana Kulatunga died in a severe road accident that occurred on the evening of the 20th, in the Ethgala, Nagolla area on the Gampola-Nawalapitiya main road. The OIC's wife and seven-year-old son were injured in the accident and admitted to the Gampola Teaching Hospital.

Ethgala Police state that the deceased is a three-year and three-month-old girl named Kulatunga Mudiyanselage Abheesha Nishara Kenuli Kulatunga, a resident of Unambuwa, Gampola. The girl, along with her mother and seven-year-old brother, was traveling on a motorcycle to attend a birthday party at a preschool teacher's house in Mawathura, Gampola, when they met with the accident.

Police report that the accident occurred when the motorcycle carrying the Nawalapitiya Police OIC's wife and two children collided with an oncoming motor car. All three injured individuals were immediately admitted to the Gampola Teaching Hospital, and hospital sources state that the daughter died while undergoing surgery.

The inquest into this accident was conducted by Gampola Hospital's Inquirer into Sudden Deaths, Mr. Nalin A. Mediwaka, and the post-mortem examination was performed by Judicial Medical Officer Mr. Sachinth Ranatunga. Investigations revealed that the girl was traveling on the front seat of the motorcycle.

The Judicial Medical Officer determined that internal bleeding occurred due to an impact to the girl's chest area, and death was caused by severe damage to the chest and abdomen. During the inquest, the girl's father, Mr. Nissanka Nandana Kulatunga, and mother, Mrs. Diluka Chamali Kumari Herath, provided testimony.

Ethgala Police, who conducted further investigations into the accident, presented the driver of the motor car to the Gampola Magistrate's Court, after which Gampola Magistrate Miss Sarasi Paranaman remanded him until today (23).
