Police investigations have commenced to find the stepfather involved in the murder of a two-year and four-month-old girl who tragically lost her life due to an alleged brutal assault by her mother's illicit partner in the Magammana area of Homagama. The deceased has been identified as Parindi Dilanya, a resident of Samagi Mawatha, Magammana.

Initial investigations conducted by Mattegoda Police have revealed that the individual carried out this inhumane assault because he was angered by the little girl not addressing her mother's illicit partner as "father."

The deceased girl had been living in the said house with her mother, eleven-year-old brother, as well as her grandmother and grandfather. Her biological father had abandoned them after a family dispute between her mother and father escalated. Subsequently, the mother formed an illicit relationship with another man, and it is said that this man frequently visited the house and sometimes stayed there. Reports indicate that the suspect had assaulted the girl on several occasions out of hatred for her not calling him "father," and the mother also abetted this, assaulting the girl while forcing her to call him "father."

According to police investigations, the suspect arrived at the house on the night of the 12th and severely assaulted the girl in the early hours of the 13th. Afterwards, on the morning of the 13th, he left the house with the girl under the pretext of looking for another house to live in. When he returned home in the evening, the girl was in an unusual sick or allergic condition. However, neither the suspect nor the mother took any steps to immediately hospitalize the girl. The girl's grandmother, who was severely angered by this, scolded them and left the house, stating that she was going to the police.

Following the grandmother's threat, the suspect left the house, claiming he would bring a vehicle to take the girl to the hospital, and has since fled the area. Subsequently, the mother and brother together took the girl to Homagama Base Hospital on a motorcycle, but doctors confirmed that she had already passed away by then. The police, acting swiftly on the incident, arrested the girl's mother on suspicion of involvement in the incident and have launched a wide-ranging operation to apprehend the main suspect who fled. As there was a previous police complaint that this woman had poisoned the girl and attempted to commit suicide herself, the police further suspect whether this murder was a planned act with the mother's knowledge.

Officers from the Galle Face Crime Scene Investigation Laboratory (SOCO) arrived at the scene and conducted preliminary investigations, and Acting Magistrate Oshari Jayakody of Kottawa also visited the location and conducted an on-site inspection. As the body was kept at Homagama Base Hospital, Acting Magistrate Padmasiri Jayawardena of Homagama visited the hospital, examined the body, and ordered the police to conduct a post-mortem examination by a specialist judicial medical officer. The arrested mother is scheduled to be produced before the Kottawa Magistrate's Court, and the police are currently recording statements from other family members and continuing their investigations.
