Kekirawa Magistrate Udari Gunasekara has ordered that the case against a suspect chief incumbent monk, who is accused of repeatedly sexually abusing a Daham Pasala (Sunday school) student over several years, be taken up for hearing on September 9th.
This order was issued when the relevant case was recalled before the Kekirawa Magistrate's Court. On that occasion, Mr. Sarayan Sunil appeared for the prosecution under the instructions of Surugasnawa Police Station OIC, Police Inspector Ranweera, while Attorney Ranjith Ranasinghe and Attorney Nisansala Wijesekera appeared for the defendant, Karagahalpatha Sudharma Thero, the Chief Incumbent of Sugassawa Mudungoda Jayasumanarama. Senior Attorney Vijitha Wickramanayake also appeared before the court on behalf of the rights of the aggrieved victim girl.
After the charges of unlawful entry and sexual abuse filed against the defendant monk were read out in court, Attorney Ranjith Ranasinghe, on behalf of the defendant monk, informed the court that the monk was innocent of all those charges.
