From now on, the government has decided to hold a competitive examination for the recruitment of drivers to state institutions. This competitive examination will be conducted by the Department of Examinations, and candidates who pass it will be called for a professional test and an interview and will be recruited into the driver service, the Ministry of Public Administration states.
Previously, drivers for some state institutions were recruited by those institutions themselves, and the Ministry also states that the recruitment method in the service constitution of the Combined Driver Service has been amended to stop that system. The Ministry further states that the service of drivers recruited under the new system will be permanent, and they will be entitled to a pension. Accordingly, applications have now been called for the recruitment of drivers to state institutions.
It is also stated that for recruitment to the driver position, candidates must have passed the G.C.E. Ordinary Level examination with passes in Sinhala and Tamil languages, two credit passes, and six subjects, in not more than two attempts. The Ministry also states that applications for this will be accepted until March 16th, and these applications must be completed online by visiting the Department of Examinations website at www.doenets.lk. Information regarding the recruitment of drivers to the public service has been published in the Gazette dated 2026.02.13.
