Kuliyapitiya Teaching Hospital sources report that a student from Kuliyapitiya Central College, who was scheduled to sit for the G.C.E. Ordinary Level examination, was bitten by a viper on the night of the 22nd, causing him to lose his eyesight. This student was preparing to face the mathematics paper, which was scheduled to be held the following day (23rd).

School sources state that while the government has completely banned tuition classes for G.C.E. Ordinary Level students, this student was bitten by a snake while returning home after attending a tuition class to discuss a mathematics paper.

When inquired, a spokesperson for the Kuliyapitiya Teaching Hospital stated that the child is showing sufficient symptoms to suspect that he was bitten by a viper. The spokesperson emphasized that there is some confidence that the child's eyesight may be restored in the future through proper treatment. He further added that it is crucial for children to be extremely careful about their safety during the examination period.
