A group of people who were subjected to a sudden wasp attack yesterday (02) afternoon near the Faculty of Arts premises of the University of Peradeniya have been hospitalized. Due to this incident, steps have been taken to admit eight individuals, including university students, to Peradeniya Teaching Hospital for urgent treatment.
Police confirm that among those hospitalized are six students and two members of the university staff. This group faced the wasp attack in the afternoon, in front of the Milk Bar located near the Faculty of Arts.
However, a university spokesperson stated in an inquiry regarding this incident that no wasp nests were visible externally near the site of the attack. Students present there also stated that no wasp nests could be seen in the area.
Normally, several wasp nests are consistently found around the Akbar Bridge at the University of Peradeniya. It is a common practice for the university administration to intervene and remove these wasp nests about a week before the university's graduation ceremonies.
