Former Minister Wimal Weerawansa, leader of the National Freedom Front, announced that an continuous Satyagraha will commence in front of the Ministry of Education from next Monday (12), strongly protesting the new education reform process proposed by the current government.

The former minister revealed this today (10) while addressing a press conference held in Colombo as the convener of the "Adults for Children" organization. Accordingly, plans have been made to launch this protest movement from 9:00 AM on that day, demanding the immediate withdrawal of the proposed new education reforms and the resignation of the current Minister of Education from her post.

Mr. Weerawansa accused that these new reforms are part of a program to destroy the future of children by depriving them of proper educational opportunities. He pointed out that the inclusion of obscene websites and YouTube channels in the new curriculum modules is a very serious and unforgivable mistake. The former minister stated that this is an organized racket carried out with the aim of making money by promoting the use of technological tools, and that there is an attempt to increase access to certain websites through it.

Wimal Weerawansa also emphasized that the government has disregarded the scientific methodologies that should be followed when implementing such critical reforms affecting the future generation of the country. He pointed out that such serious errors have occurred due to the hasty preparation of these reforms without experimentation through pilot projects or extensive discussions with experts. He stated that the serious attention of experts in society and all parties should be focused on the safety of children at this moment.

The former minister extended an open invitation to all parents who love children, regardless of party affiliations, to join this continuous Satyagraha to make it a success. Wimal Weerawansa further assured that this Satyagraha will continue until the government completely withdraws this harmful education reform process.
