Vehicular traffic on the Kandy - Colombo main road is restricted from Kadawatha.

The Police Media Division announces that traffic on the Kandy - Colombo main road will be restricted due to a special construction project being carried out in the Kadawatha area. These traffic restrictions will be implemented in the Bandarawatta, Puwakpitiya areas, which fall under the Kadawatha Police Division, and will be effective until March 15, 2026.

The Road Development Authority has taken this step as construction work for the project titled "Kadawatha System Interchange and 500m Road towards Meerigama" is actively underway these days. Accordingly, arrangements have been made to close one lane of the Kandy - Colombo main road during the aforementioned period.

To avoid potential traffic congestion and inconvenience caused by the closure of this road section, an alternative route has been introduced for vehicles entering and exiting Colombo. Accordingly, the police request drivers to use the road from the traffic light junction in Kadawatha town center, along the expressway entrance road, up to the Eldeniya traffic light junction as the alternative route.
