Netherlands team arrives on the island to participate in the T20 World Cup

The Netherlands cricket team has currently arrived in Sri Lanka to participate in the 2026 ICC Men's T20 World Cup Cricket Tournament.

This tournament, co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka, is scheduled to be held grandly from February 07 to March 08, 2026, and with the preparations underway, the excitement for the tournament has already begun.

20 teams from around the world will participate in this tournament, with a total of 55 matches planned to be held across 5 venues in India and 3 venues in Sri Lanka. This will adopt a similar format to the 2024 tournament, and the top 7 teams from the 2024 T20 World Cup – Pakistan, Australia, England, New Zealand, South Africa, West Indies, and Afghanistan – have directly qualified. Additionally, based on the T20 International rankings as of June 30, 2024, the United States, Bangladesh, and Zimbabwe will also join the tournament.

Scotland, Netherlands, Ireland, Namibia, Oman, and the United Arab Emirates have secured their World Cup berths through regional qualifying rounds. A special highlight is the Italian team qualifying for a World Cup tournament for the first time in history, while another team is yet to be selected through qualifying matches for the remaining spot.

According to the match schedule, warm-up matches will be held from February 02 to 06, 2026, and 40 preliminary round matches are scheduled from February 07 to 20. Subsequently, 12 Super 8s matches will be held from February 21 to March 01, with the semi-finals on March 04 and 05. All arrangements have been made for the World Cup final to be held on March 08.

Three stadiums have been selected for the matches to be held in Sri Lanka: R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, SSC (Sinhalese Sports Club) Ground in Colombo, and Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy have been prepared for this purpose.
