At a time when the country's leading Mahanayaka Theros are directly intervening in the decisions of the current government, a weekend newspaper has revealed special information about former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa. The Mawrata newspaper has reported that he is going to enter the monastic order. He, who played a special role as the Secretary of Defence in ending the thirty-year brutal war, later also made history as the first president to abandon his post and flee in the face of a public uprising.

In addition to contributing to the war victory as the Secretary of Defence, it is no secret that he also earned a name as a pioneer in projects to beautify the city of Colombo.

Even after becoming president, he had ample opportunities to maintain his reputation as a leader with high public approval, but due to acting on wrong advice given by his close associates, he eventually had to flee the country in the face of strong public opposition. However, after returning to the country, the former president adopted a very quiet policy, not participating in any political activities or public events, and refrained from making any political statements.

According to reliable information we have received so far, it is reported that the former president is currently spending his time deeply inclined towards Buddhist philosophy. It is also understood that he has limited meetings with external individuals as much as possible and is accustomed to spending most of his day in meditation. Furthermore, information has been received by the 'State Secrets' column of the Mawrata newspaper that he shows great interest in studying books written on Buddhist philosophy and deep meditation techniques, and in learning the Dhamma related to them.

According to the current situation, we also learn that there is a high possibility that the former president will leave his lay life and enter the monastic order in the twilight of his life. If such a decision is made, Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa will go down in history as the first executive president in Sri Lankan history to enter monastic life.
