Information revealed about the Navagamuwa shooting

A person has died and two others have been seriously injured in a shooting that occurred at a rented house in the Manikaagara Road area of Navagamuwa, Korathota, on the night of day before yesterday (January 01). The shooting targeted three individuals who were in a house rented on a lease basis.

Preliminary police investigations have revealed that a group of individuals who arrived on a motorcycle and a three-wheeler carried out the shooting and fled the scene.

One of the victims of the shooting died on the spot near the bathroom of the house; he was a 20-year-old youth residing in the Borella area. The police state that the other two individuals injured in the shooting are residents of Waddiyagoda, Ambalantota, and Gawalemulla, Dematagoda areas.

The injured were initially admitted to the Athurugiriya Oruwala Divisional Hospital and later transferred to Homagama Base Hospital for further treatment. It is reported that one person has four bullets in his body, and the other has one bullet.

The police also state that 15 spent 9mm bullet casings were found at the scene of the incident. These three youths had moved into the rented house about one and a half months ago.

Information has been revealed that at the time of the shooting, they were holding an alcohol party to celebrate the New Year.

The motive for this shooting has not yet been revealed, but the police suspect it could be the result of an ongoing conflict between two underworld gangs. Further investigations into this matter are reportedly underway.
