It is reported that 'Rotumba Amila', an organized criminal and drug trafficker currently in the custody of Russian security forces under a Red Notice issued by Interpol, has applied to join the Russian army to obtain citizenship in that country. Latest information received by intelligence agencies reveals that he plans to use this strategy to prevent his extradition to Sri Lanka.

Based on this information, investigations carried out by police authorities in Sri Lanka have confirmed that he is implementing a cunning plan to obtain Russian citizenship with the aim of preventing his extradition to Sri Lanka. Accordingly, it has become apparent to the security forces that his primary effort has been to acquire citizenship in that country by joining the Russian military service, and that requests have already been submitted to the relevant authorities for this purpose.

Rotumba Amila was arrested by Russian security forces in March last year with the intervention of Interpol, and the Russian police officially informed Sri Lanka about this in late March. Subsequently, although efforts were initiated to bring him back to Sri Lanka under extradition law, he has filed an appeal against it in the Russian court, and against this backdrop, where the process has not yet been successful, he is now attempting to join the Russian army.

A trial is being held in a Russian court against Amila Sampath of Sepala Ratnayake, also known as Rotumba Amila, regarding the violation of immigration laws. The process of bringing him back to Sri Lanka has been delayed because this court case has not yet concluded.

However, the relevant senior police officer further stated that the necessary steps for Rotumba Amila's extradition to Sri Lanka have already been completed by the Sri Lankan side. Previously, he was remanded in custody in Sri Lanka on criminal charges, but later managed to obtain bail and somehow flee the country.

He has been accused in connection with an incident where he allegedly attempted to shoot and kill a businessman named Nalaka Pushpakumara and his assistant, Jasingakandage Nilanga Sandaruwan, with a T-56 firearm inside a shop in the Rotumba area of Matara.

After phone analysis reports and intelligence information revealed that this assassination attempt was orchestrated from Dubai, he was arrested by the police in 2019. In the same year, after being arrested at a party in Dubai with Makandure Madush and subsequently deported from that country, he was apprehended by the Secret Police Unit at Katunayake Airport and produced before the court.

It is also reported that Kanjipani Imran was previously caught in Dubai, later released on bail, and is now continuing his violent activities.
