A woman in a car was reportedly shot dead by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer in Minneapolis, United States. Video footage of the shooting incident is currently circulating rapidly on social media, and the deceased woman has been identified as 37-year-old Renee Good, a mother of three children.
According to the relevant video footage, one officer approached a car stopped on the road and asked the driver to open the door, at which point the vehicle drove forward. Foreign media reports that the other officer, who was in front of the car, immediately drew his firearm and shot the woman in the driver's seat from very close range.Responding to the incident, US President Donald Trump commented, defending the officer's actions. While acknowledging that the shooting footage was very frightening, the President argued that the officer was innocent, stating that the woman had intentionally targeted the officer and attempted to harm the officers. Additionally, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem stated that she considers this a "domestic terrorist attack" against the officers because the woman attempted to run them over with the vehicle.
However, these statements by the federal government have been strongly rejected by Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey. Holding a press conference, the mayor accused immigration officers of sowing anarchy in the city, breaking up families, and killing people under the guise of security. He emphasized that the ICE unit must immediately leave his city and state, stating that he stands strongly with the immigrant and refugee community.
The woman's car, after she was shot and wounded, crashed into two other vehicles nearby and stopped. Although medical teams attempted to save her, she died at the scene. Following this tragedy, hundreds of enraged people gathered on the streets of Minneapolis and began protests against ICE officers, also lighting candles at night to mourn the deceased woman.
