Hakmana Police state that the hands of a person were severed below the wrists with a sharp weapon in the Kongala area of Hakmana, Matara, on the night of the day before yesterday (6), and the body parts were taken away by the perpetrators who then fled. Police suspect that this horrific crime was an act of revenge related to an old dispute.

The injured person is a resident of Kongala Central area, Hakmana. Investigations have revealed that he was abducted in a three-wheeler while waiting near the Ranaviru bus stop on the Hakmana-Matara road, and later taken to Kongala Wijaya Mawatha where his hands were severed. Police also state that the severed hand parts were placed in a polythene bag and taken away. This seriously injured person was initially admitted to Kirinda Hospital and later transferred to Matara General Hospital for further treatment.

Preliminary investigations by the police have revealed that the current victim had, on August 6th of last year (2023), severely injured the son of one of the suspects involved in this incident by severing his hand, and had also launched an acid attack on the son's father. Police also state that after being arrested and produced in court for that crime, and subsequently released on bail from remand custody, he was subjected to this horrific attack. Information uncovered during investigations suggests that this incident was an act of revenge for the previous attack.

The Criminal Investigation Division of Hakmana Police has launched extensive investigations to arrest three individuals, including a father and son, connected to this crime. Information has been received that the suspects have fled the area, and police have also launched operations to locate the severed hand parts that were taken away. Further investigations into the incident are underway.
