The government has decided to award contracts for operating foreign exchange counters within the Arrival Terminal of Katunayake Bandaranaike International Airport. As part of the airport development project, during the redevelopment of the Arrival Terminal, a need has arisen to relocate the money exchange counters, which were previously established in the area allocated for customs operations, to another location.
Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) (Private) Limited had previously taken steps to suspend the existing agreements due to the inability to reach an agreement regarding the monthly rent applicable for locating these money exchange counters in the newly allocated places. Subsequently, arrangements were made to call for bids under a limited competitive bidding process from institutions approved by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, for the purpose of operating foreign exchange counters for a period of 03 years in a newly allocated area of the Arrival Terminal.
Accordingly, based on the recommendations provided by the High-Level Standing Procurement Committee regarding the 05 bids submitted, Cabinet approval has been granted for the proposal submitted by the Minister of Ports and Civil Aviation. According to this new approval, contracts will be awarded to Commercial Bank of Ceylon PLC for LKR 972.77 million including applicable taxes for operating counter number 04, and to Bank of Ceylon for LKR 877.14 million including applicable taxes for counter number 05.
Furthermore, Thomas Cook Lanka (Pvt) Limited has been selected for operating counter number 06 for LKR 720.79 million including applicable taxes, and the contract for counter number 07 has been awarded to Sampath Bank PLC for LKR 646.64 million including applicable taxes. In addition, steps have been taken to award these contracts for a period of 03 years to People's Bank for counter number 08 for LKR 631.61 million including applicable taxes.
