Organized criminal 'Keselwatte Dinuusha' alias Hewapedige Dinuusha Chathuranga, against whom international red notices had been issued, has been brought back to the country from India. A special team of police officers brought him to the Katunayake International Airport this evening (24), and he was later handed over to officers of the Airport Criminal Investigation Department.
Meanwhile, it is also mentioned that another underworld figure named 'Keselwatte Dinuuka', who has a similar name, died in Dubai in 2021 and his body was brought back to the country. That was Dinuuka, and this is Dinuusha.
Dinuusha, a 34-year-old resident of Colombo 12, is accused of being involved in numerous homicides that occurred in several areas including Keselwatte, Kotahena, and Mattakkuliya. Additionally, he faces charges related to the possession of firearms and hand grenades, as well as several robberies committed around Colombo.
The suspect was brought to the Katunayake International Airport from Chennai, India, on IndiGo flight 6E-1179, at approximately 4:15 PM today (24), under heavy security.
After questioning him upon arrival at the airport, arrangements have been made to hand him over to the Keselwatte Police in Colombo for further investigations.
This operation is the result of a special discussion held by the Inspector General of Police under the coordination of the Minister of Public Security and the Secretary to the Ministry. Accordingly, after direct discussions with the Indian government, the Indian High Commission in Sri Lanka, and Indian security forces, this organized criminal, against whom red notices had been issued, has been successfully brought back to the country.
According to the police, there are several court cases against this suspect. Among them are:
* A homicide committed by stabbing with sharp weapons in the Keselwatte Police Division in 2015.
* Aiding and abetting a homicide by shooting in the Kotahena Police Division in 2018.
* A homicide committed by stabbing with sharp weapons in the Mattakkuliya Police Division in 2021.
* Possession of a live hand grenade in the Kotahena Police Division in 2021.
* Robberies and possession of drugs committed in the Keselwatte, Veherawadiya, and Bloemendhal Police Divisions.
These are the main charges.
Further investigations regarding this suspect will be conducted under the full direction of the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the Colombo Division.
