Anuradhapura Additional Magistrate Ms. Dasuni Hapuarachchi ordered the remand of a municipal councilor of the Sarvajana Balawegaya party and another suspect until January 6. This order was issued after they were arrested by the Anuradhapura Police and presented to the court in connection with an incident where an employee at a contract work site, controlled by the Anuradhapura Municipal Council, was assaulted.
The Magistrate issued this order the day before yesterday (24).The police informed the court that this alleged assault incident in Anuradhapura was committed under the influence of alcohol. After considering these facts, the Additional Magistrate reached this decision. The two individuals arrested and remanded were Tilak Nishantha Ginige, the sole councilor of the Sarvajana Balawegaya party in the Anuradhapura Municipal Council, and Jeewan Bandara Samarakoon.
Sub-Inspector Karunananda Wanninayake, OIC of the Legal Operations Division of Anuradhapura Headquarters Police, along with Sub-Inspector Nandasena and Sergeant Ilangasinghe, presented facts before the court. Senior Attorney Chandana Weerakoon appeared for the suspects, while Attorneys Sanjaya Ratnayake and Pradeep Dissanayake appeared for the rights of the aggrieved party.
