Update: Former Students Demand Impartial Investigation to Ensure Justice for Two Sirimavo Students

Following the rapid spread across the internet of the controversial video from the annual Colours Awarding Ceremony at Sirimavo Bandaranaike Vidyalaya, Colombo, the Sirimavo Bandaranaike Vidyalaya Old Girls' Association has issued a special statement responding to the incident. The association emphasizes that both the squash player and the swimmer involved in the incident have brought immense fame and honour to the school through their talents.

According to the student making the accusation, the award was given to someone else because she did not attend a prior practice session.
Furthermore, the Old Girls' Association states that they have requested the school administration to conduct a formal, impartial, and transparent investigation into this matter, and that a panel comprising qualified sports specialists should be appointed for this purpose. They further noted that a report related to the investigation will be issued once it is concluded.

Until the investigation is complete, the Old Girls' Association urges all parties to refrain from sharing statements or posts on social media that could harm the mental well-being of the students involved or the reputation of the school. 

However, the school administration has not yet issued a separate official statement regarding this incident. Instead, a Facebook clarification was made under the heading "For the information of those concerned," stating that the student who received the award was deserving of it, and the student who did not receive an award was undisciplined.

Both students are renowned athletes of the school, and this issue arose during the Colours Night held after 7 years.
However, records indicate that the student who received the award only has local competition records, while the athlete who spoke out has several international competition victories.
