UNICEF has agreed to provide the necessary support to restore the education sector. This agreement was reached during a discussion held at the Prime Minister's Office between Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya and UNICEF representatives. The primary objective of this meeting was to secure assistance for rebuilding schools damaged by disasters.
During this meeting, the Prime Minister emphasized the measures taken by the government since the onset of the natural disaster to protect the entire student community, including schoolchildren, and to rebuild the damaged school system.
Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya stated that the government is focused on relocating schools at risk of landslides to other safe locations. She further added that a primary objective of the government is to provide relief to students in affected schools and to bring these children back to school without imposing any additional financial burden on their parents.
UNICEF representatives assured that they are ready to provide the government with the utmost support required to rebuild Sri Lanka's education sector.
