A Tanzanian national airline passenger, who arrived from Dubai and was awaiting a connecting flight to Malaysia at Katunayake International Airport, gave birth to a child within the airport premises this morning (05).
The 29-year-old woman arrived in Katunayake from Dubai around 6:30 AM today on FitsAir flight 8D-822. She was waiting in the transit terminal with the intention of departing for Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
While she was there, she suddenly experienced labor pains, prompting authorities to swiftly act and direct her to the airport's medical treatment center.
Airport sources state that with the intervention and assistance of the doctors and nurses at the center, she safely delivered a baby boy.
Subsequently, the mother and the newborn were admitted to Negombo General Hospital via an ambulance belonging to Katunayake Airport for further treatment and observation.
