An employee of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) who was on duty to restore the power supply that had been disrupted due to severe winds and rainy weather conditions affecting the Kurunegala District, has died from electrocution.
The accident occurred around 12:45 PM on the 3rd of last month, while he was attempting to repair a damaged high-voltage power line system on the Bowatta and Weerapokuna road.
The employee, who was in critical condition after being electrocuted, was immediately admitted to Weerapokuna Base Hospital and then transferred to Kuliyapitiya Teaching Hospital for further treatment.
Despite the strenuous efforts of medical teams at both hospitals to save him, he passed away approximately an hour after being hospitalized.
The unfortunate individual who died was a 41-year-old line technician named Anuruddha Kumara.
He began his career in 2007 as a temporary line worker and was appointed to a permanent position in 2017 after a decade of service. He had worked at the Ukuwela electricity substation and had recently transferred to the Hettipola Electrical Engineering Office.
The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) stated that it appreciates the service of this officer who lost his life while serving the public amidst the prevailing disaster situation in the country, and assured that it would take steps to ensure maximum justice at an institutional level for him and his family members.
