The Sri Lanka College of Ophthalmologists warns of a high risk of eye diseases spreading in the safe centers and camps housing people affected by Cyclone 'Ditwa'. The President of the association, Consultant Ophthalmologist Dr. Kusum Ratnayake, emphasizes that this situation can be prevented in advance by adopting proper hygiene practices and maintaining good health habits.

The doctor points out that the risk of infectious diseases spreading is high, especially in situations where large groups of people are gathered in one place. The condition commonly known as 'sore eyes' (red eyes) is primarily observed here,

and it has the potential to transmit very rapidly from person to person through touch and air.

The doctor advises the public that if someone contracts this condition, they should ensure frequent hand washing and avoid touching their eyes with unwashed hands. She further stated that if the disease spreads, it could affect the entire group in the safe center, potentially creating numerous unnecessary health problems.
