The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption has launched a formal investigation against former Members of Parliament, Mr. Nandana Gunathilaka and Mr. Udaya Gammanpila, based on an accusation that they acted in a manner contemptuous of the Commission.

It is reported that this investigation was initiated based on a complaint filed by the civil society organization 'Citizen Power Against Bribery, Corruption, and Waste'.

It is suspected that the statements or actions made by the two former MPs have brought disrepute to the Commission, and officials of the Commission have confirmed that these investigations commenced after civil organizations filed a formal complaint.

Mr. Ranga Dissanaike, the Director-General of the Bribery Commission, had previously stated that if there were any issues regarding his conduct or professional actions, these MPs had the option to submit petitions with evidence to the Judicial Service Commission. He further pointed out that the objective of making baseless public accusations without taking proper action was to erode public trust in the Bribery Commission.

The Commission further emphasizes that there is no basis whatsoever for the recent accusation made by former MP Nandana Gunathilaka that the Director-General is connected to the legal committee of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP).
