President instructs officials to prepare accurate data for compensation

 President Anura Kumara Dissanayake instructed relevant officials to develop a systematic and efficient data collection mechanism for identifying houses damaged by adverse weather conditions and Cyclone Ditwa, and for providing compensation. The President gave these instructions yesterday (04) morning during a special discussion held at the Presidential Secretariat with officials from the Ministry of Finance and the National Housing Development Authority, and

the main objective of this meeting was to review the houses damaged by the disaster and the compensation payment process.

Emphasizing the importance of obtaining accurate information through a technical methodology to expedite compensation efforts, the President,


also strongly emphasized the need to provide permanent and long-term solutions to people living in high-risk areas, ensuring they do not face such disasters again.

Officials from the National Housing Development Authority revealed that according to preliminary survey data, 128,925 homes have suffered full damage and 44,574 homes have suffered partial damage due to landslides and adverse weather conditions.

Minister of Housing, Construction and Water Supply Susil Ranasinghe, Secretary to the Ministry of Finance Dr. Harshana Suriyapperuma, Director General of the National Budget Department Jude Nilukshan, and Chairman of the National Housing Development Authority Aravinda Sirinath, along with a group of senior officials, participated in this event.
